Julian Alvarez earned comparisons to Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero but his goal in a 3-3 friendly draw to Barcelona was all about Barca’s goalkeeper.

Alvarez was one of six different scorers in the Camp Nou match, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay all scoring for the home side – three players who could all be about to leave.

The charity match, organised to raise money for ALS [Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis] research, saw City’s Pep Guardiola reunited on the touchline with his former player Xavi Hernandez.

The two won it all together at Barcelona, but this game was about charity, as well as fine-tuning their teams this season.

Guardiola will have been reminded of his options up front when Alvarez pounced on a shocking error from Barca keeper Inaki Pena.

The Spaniard dropped a routine catch for City’s £14million signing to slot in, and talkSPORT’s Trevor Sinclair gave his views on the player.

“I’m excited about this boy,” the former City midfielder said. “He’s slipped in a little bit under the radar because of Erling Haaland, I’ve seen little snippets of him.

“I have to say he reminds me of Aguero, he’s thick set, he looks fearless.”

Xavi will have learned lots from the game, with Aubameyang, who is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, firing in a brilliant tight-angled volley and showing plenty of release in his celebration.

De Jong, who has been chased by Manchester United all summer and now Bayern Munich, also scored after a defensive collapse from City, while Memphis Depay and Cole Palmer will have been pleased to make headlines by both finding the net.

Riyad Mahrez later scored a penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage-time to ensure the exhibition match finished 3-3, but it came with some controversy.

Erling Haaland won the spot kick after being clipped by Andreas Christensen, who was less than happy to see the Norwegian hit the deck after minimal contact.
