Legendary commentator Martin Tyler has named his favourite match from his career so far – and it’s not Sergio Aguero’s last-gasptitle-winning goal.
The 78-year-old has reported live from the gantry in what will be half a century later this month having first picked up the microphone in 1974.

That was a Division Two clash between Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday, with Tyler since becoming one of the voices of football.
His memorable reaction to Aguero’s dramatic strike against QPR on the final day of the 2011/12 season to win the Citizens the title will forever be remembered.
But the five-goal thriller, which saw City score twice in injury time to win 3-2, isn’t his most memorable match from his career.
Tyler, who has stated that he got ‘stepped down’ by Sky Sports as their lead commentator in the summer, joined Shaun Custis and Henry Winter to speak on the Sunday Edition on talkSPORT.
Pressed by Winter, Tyler was asked what is the standout game from his 50 years of commentating.
To which he named the first of the iconic 4-3 wins for Liverpool against Newcastle, which occurred in the 1995/96 campaign and then the following term.
A Stan Collymore-inspired double helped the Reds snatch victory in the final seconds, which stopped the Magpies from pipping Manchester United to the title.
Commenting on the match, Tyler said: “The first of the Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3’s, the one ending with Kevin Keegan draped over the side of the advertising hoarding and ‘Collymore closing in’.

“During the [Covid] pandemic, Sky ran it again, and I had one of my children with me who has heard me banging on about the game and has never seen it.
“So we sat down and I remember thinking it wouldn’t be as good as I remembered because that’s the way it goes – it was better, even better.
“It had everything, from Liverpool scoring early, and then not leading again until Stan scored in added time, it was a brilliant match.
“Both were going for the title and neither of them won it, so there was a bit of frustration at the end of it.”
Tyler then went on to state that years later, Faustino Asprilla, who scored in both 4-3 defeats to Liverpool, and Collymore bumped into each other 18 years later, with the former still left devastated.
He stated: “At the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, Stan was working for you guys, and I went up in the lift in Sao Paulo [Arena de Sao Paulo] for the opening game.
“We were going up to the gantry and someone was coming into the lift to go gown – it was Tino Asprilla!
“And he looked at Collymore, and he went, ‘You cost me my Premier League winner’s medal!’
“He couldn’t have known that moment was going to happen, that was 2014 as opposed to 1996.”
