Erling Haaland continues to make history with a start to the season that has taken the Premier League by storm.

The Manchester City star currently has the best goalscoring rate of any player to score more than one goal in the competition’s history.

He is averaging a goal every 48 minutes so far this campaign, scoring 14 in eight games.

To put this into perspective, Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer averaged a goal every 147 minutes.

Haaland’s current form has blitzed all others in the highest rankings of minutes per goal and he now sits above Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry.

Aguero averaged a goal every 108 minutes while Henry hit the back of the net every 122 minutes.

Of course, it’s unknown whether he will keep this up but if he does he will leave legends behind as he makes history.

This sort of goal scoring means he has scored with 42 per cent of his 33 overall shots in the Premier League which is the best conversion rate of any player with at least 20 attempts since 2004.

His efficiency has moved him above Jorginho who has a 31.8 per cent conversion rate from 63 shots and Conor Coady who has a 30 per cent conversion rate from 20 shots.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against Southampton, which is exclusively live on talkSPORT 2, Haaland’s goal tally is already only one off Man City’s top scorer last campaign.

Last weekend in the Citizens’ 6-3 win over Manchester United, the Norweigan scored his third consecutive home hat-trick, becoming the first-ever player to do so, and has the chance to make it four this weekend.

Opponents Southampton will, of course, be fearful of the number nine and their recent form in away games proves a tough afternoon could be on the horizon.

The Saints have not won any of their 11 away trips to the Etihad since 2004 and with Pep Guardiola’s side firing, there’s a likelihood of increasing that unwanted streak.

To make things worse for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who is under pressure after a poor start to the season, his side haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 18 Premier League away games.

This is the club’s longest-ever run of conceding in the competition and they now face the league’s top scorers.

Man City are the only unbeaten team so far this season, sitting one point behind league leaders Arsenal ahead of the weekend’s games.

Haaland will be licking his lips at the prospect of coming up against Southampton as he eyes even more records in the Premier League.
