Deep into stoppage time, with Manchester United’s season already concluded, City leapfrogged their arch-rivals with one of the last kicks of the campaign.
The era-defining strike came after Edin Dzeko equalised in the second minute of injury time, setting up arguably the most dramatic moment in top-flight history.
Aguero could have retired as a City legend that day but also went on the become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 260 goals across a glittering ten-year career.
And now the club have immortalised the forward, who left City last summer, with a statue of his celebration against QPR.
He joins ex-teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva in stone outside the Etihad Stadium.
“Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me,” said Aguero, 33, who was recently forced to retire from football with a heart problem after joining Barcelona.
