Man City icon Sergio Aguero will go down as one of the best strikers of all time, believes his former assistant coach Brian Kidd.
The Argentine retired from football on Wednesday in a tearful press conference after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.
The striker signed for Barcelona in the summer having left City after a glittering ten year career at the Etihad Stadium.
During that time, the 33-year-old scored 260 goals in 390 games, including his iconic title-winning striker against QPR – cementing his name in the club’s record books as Man City‘s all-time top goalscorer.
Kidd was on the City backroom team at the time, working under Roberto Mancini, and – alongside Aguero – helped them to their first Premier League title.
The 72-year-old insists that Aguero will go down in history after a phenomenal career and praises his character, as well as his footballing ability.
I don’t think any one of us will ever see it repeated, when we won the league with that goal – 93:20,” Kidd told talkSPORT host Jim White.
“That was an unforgettable moment, it was Manchester City winning the title for the first time since 1968, it was the old First Division in those days. For me, the first one is always the hardest to win.
“He was a top, top finisher. You name anybody in the history of strikers, Sergio Aguero will be up there with him, no doubt about that, in my humble opinion.”
Kidd added: “I would never make comparisons of who is the best player over the years, but what Sergio did was phenomenal.
“You can’t put it in words and he’s such a lovely, modest, humble person as well, which was the big thing about him.
“Nothing fazed him. He was ice cold in the box.
“He’s always have a place in my heart, and in the hearts of fans, without a doubt – not just as a footballer but as a person.
“He was such a lovely, lovely person. The greatness he possessed but how honest and humble he was and the empathy he had towards people as well.
“He was a top, top, top player.”
